Read An Opinion On:
Disciplining Your Dog\’s Begging
by
Sophia Broomfield
Begging for crumbs at the dining table is a common dog behavior, and one that is actually inappropriate. Although it is not something as destructive as improper dog chewing which necessitates you to provide them chewable dog toys, dog begging has something to do with its concepts of being overindulged and it will have some negative effects to the dog\’s feeding habits. Besides, it becomes an irritable behavior particularly to the pet owner.
In order to discipline your dog\’s begging behavior, you will have to firstly discipline yourself into following strict measures. You will see results which will be as great as the extent of the willpower you are going to exercise in order to obey the following rules.
1. Do not initiate the behavior. Dogs first learn to beg when it is fed with a little food in the wrong place and at the wrong time. It will like the pleasure which the food gives and will thus try to ask for more of what it has been given, hence the begging. The root of the problem ought not to be planted, then, especially for those who have not yet seen such behavioral signs of begging in their dogs.
2. If it has been an ongoing problem, cease to consent at once. If you are one of those owners who have missed the first rule, you still can change your dog\’s course by discontinuing the trend. When it tries to solicit your affection, simply cease to look at its teary eyes and just remember you would not want it to be intemperate.
3. Be consistent at giving no more consent. Your dogs may be sleeping on their dog beds apparently as recent victors over the dog begging behavior, but the next day they can still repeat manifesting the same behavioral problem. Well, their temperance still had to be daily worked on until some future time, so you too had to daily be self-controlled.
4. Seclude the dog into its own place when you\’re at meal time. Now this is how you can practically help yourself as well as your dog. If it cannot overcome at the dining room, then place it beyond temptation\’s reach. You can lovingly tie your pets with their dog collars to some other interesting place so they could not suffer the craving.
5. Feed it at certain, exact times each day. Your dog would not need extra, begged food if you are feeding it right. You understand this but dogs don\’t, so it\’s still in your power to deny your dogs whatever is beyond its rightful needs.Give the dog something else to spend time with. Well, you can share the same eating schedules with your dog but at different dining places. If it\’s done eating and you are still finishing up, make sure you\’ve left it with a bunch of those cheap pet supplies it can busy itself with so it doesn\’t have to beg for more pleasure.
